Trump’s ‘energy dominance’ strategy starting to crack Eastern European markets www.rstreet.org/2017/08/23/trumps-energy-dominance-strategy-starting-to-crack-eastern-european-markets/The U.S. Energy Department announced Aug. 21 that a cargo ship full of Pennsylvania coal would be sailing out of Baltimore, 5,600 nautical miles across the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean and Black Seas to Ukraine, the first such shipment of its kind.
Such shipments hold significance in a variety of ways, and offer a possible window into the Trump administration’s desire to use energy trade to offset the aggressive geopolitical behavior of Russian President Vladimir Putin. In March, Ukraine cut off deliveries of coal from the Russian-controlled region of Donbass, where much of Ukraine’s coal industry resided before the 2014 conflict between Ukraine and Russia began.
Centrenergo, the Ukrainian power utility, has been struggling since March to replace the blocked coal supplies. Now, Latrobe, Pennsylvania-based XCoal Energy will send 700,000 tons of anthracite coal to Odessa over the next several months. The agreement follows a June meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and U.S. President Donald Trump.
This week also marks the first shipment of liquefied natural gas from the United States to the Baltic state of Lithuania, a former Soviet satellite, which until recently was completely dependent on Russian gas supplies. Lithuania and the other Baltic states of Latvia and Estonia have at times been under withering political pressure from their former Cold War patrons, particularly since Moscow occupied the Crimea in 2014."Collusion."

*snort* Ya sure, let's go with that. Yes the truth shall set you free. Obama did a great job with LNG, the US became the world's top producer and he approved the export of LNG then he approved the very expensive and special development of the ports/machinery capable of exporting LNG. Just another example of how good of a job Obama did as pres. Obama had a great balance of oil and gas AND alt energy. The US greatly expanded all under Obama, not to mention the nice cheap gas we have had for the past few years.

OH and just so you know Ukraine has been importing US coal for a while now, so this is really no big deal. www.rt.com/business/250629-ukraine-energy-coal-imports/"Ukraine’s major suppliers of coal in the first quarter of 2015 were Russia with $153.86 million worth, the USA at $106.4 million and South Africa at $45.14 million, according to data from metalukraine.com. Other countries accounted for $99.81 million. In April Ukraine plans to take around 500,000 tons of coal from the Donbas region, the source adds." Just another attempt by republicans to search and scratch and claw for some form of an accomplishment by the failure -in-chief.

You know if Trump had anything to do with this, he'ld be banging his own drum and singing praises to himself as the greatest achievement of any president ever. His wins are so rare when he does have one, or what he thinks is one, it would be played up in all his self promotional (read campaign) speeches as well as by his sycophants and press monkeys. It would be more than a blurb in some right wing non profit think tank.
Dont let him know its an Obama set up or else he'll try to shut it down.

There are a lot of things flying under the radar right now. Apparently Trump is enjoying his role as our second Troll president so much that he's not bothering to highlight wins such as this.
DJP: Thanks for the link to the Hill piece, there's some nice stuff in there.
There is no doubt that the Trump administration is “all in” when it comes to LNG exports. Energy Secretary Rick Perry acted promptly to approve the first two LNG export licenses that appeared on his desk and President Trump raised U.S. LNG in his meeting Monday with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is expected to do so when he meets Korean President Moon Jae-in on Thursday. Plus, there is the 100-day U.S.-China trade action plan that includes LNG.
Regarding Obama, this is the same guy that thought that Savannah is a "gulf port" and the same guy that hid evidence of Russian influence in our elections for years because he didn't want to piss off Putin. He is very good at talking but follow through was always an issue for him. Forgive me if I find it hard to believe that he was capable of promoting a coherent successful energy policy.
Point to the specific legislation or executive order that proves your point rather than events that more than likely he had nothing to do with.
Obama talks, Trump walks.

"Trump is mostly doubling down on what President Obama got started. The Obama administration approved roughly two dozen natural-gas export applications to countries the U.S. doesn't have free-trade agreements with, according to Energy Department data. The Obama administration also rejiggered the federal review process in 2014 to make it go faster for most companies waiting for approval." ************"The Obama administration also rejiggered the federal review process in 2014 to make it go faster for most companies waiting for approval."********** "As of Dec. 31 the Energy Department had given final approval to five liquefied natural gas export proposals. It has given conditional approval to four others — including the proposed Dominion Cove facility in Lusby, Maryland — pending environmental studies and other federal reviews." www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/feb/22/obama-embraces-natural-gas-exports-to-drive-job-gr/"The Department of Energy gave final approval for a Palm Beach, Fla. natural gas export terminal to send U.S. gas abroad after studies determined the terminal wouldn’t significantly impact the environment." "In April 2012, Cheniere had become the first company to win a permit from the Obama Administration to export LNG, an effort that entailed the aid of numerous lobbyists with career ties to the Department of Energy." "The Obama administration on Wednesday authorized a fourth company to broadly export U.S. natural gas, giving Dominion conditional approval to sell the fossil fuel abroad after processing it at a Maryland facility." "With the Dominion Cove Point decision, the Obama administration has now authorized 6.37 billion cubic feet of liquefied natural gas to be sold to non-free-trade nations. What wins hes planning and how it will help the average middle class working man. In other words, when will Trump actually walk?

Trump rides the coat tails of Obama and presents his energy accomplishments as his own. In fact he then takes those energy accomplishments and unknowingly destroys them by deregulations and taking the teeth out of the epa. Obama was working to lay out a solid groundwork for alternative energy research as well as finding a balance with older technologies. This creates jobs for the future while pushing companies to explore better ways of developing the energy technology we have. Regulations create a timetable and incentives for better cleaner more effective energy. Obama was using American brainpower to build a better America and world. This would help put America back in a number one position worldwide. What does Trump do? Puts a few minors back in coal mines to promote his jobs initiative and pretty much halts the drive for better, cheaper and cleaner energy for America, Hey dooshbag-in-chief, please stop helping.

When it comes to energy production 'clean' and 'affordable' are not mutually exclusive adjectives.
Why are the whacko wingnuts so opposed to clean and affordable energy?
I can't figure out if their abject ignorance is purely ideological and they are just regurgitating political propaganda ... or they are being willfully ignorant and the gop-er party welcomes that ignorance.

The GOP seems to live in a black and white, us or them world with very few but very restrictive guidelines. Change is bad, dont spend any money, dont help anyone but yourselves, do what I say not what I do. The energy issue brushes up against all these.

Which ones are opposed to clean and affordable energy? ALL? Some? Anyone specific? I thought you didn't like sweeping broad strokes??? The vast majority of republicans are opposed to solar and wind, this isn't a "sweeping broad stroke" its a reality. Green energy is definitely the future of energy. The technology has made incredible strides in the past 8 years. With proper funding and investment we can greatly lower the cost of green energy as we have witnessed the costs reduce dramatically over the past 8 years. Look at how far computers have come since their creation. The reality is either the US can be the leader in green energy or we can sit back and watch China become the leader in green energy. Republicans hate science so they would rather see China take the lead, hopefully these 4 years won't hurt the country as much as I think they can.

To be fair ... a majority of gop-er voters actually support green energy ... it's their politicians who keep trying to kill it ... but if the wingnut voters keep electing pols who keep attacking renewable energy then those voters are either too freaking stupid to take seriously or don't really care about green energy and are just as complicit in opposing it by electing those they know will vote a against renewable initiatives.
